Restoring Files

Restoring files from file‐based backup

Backed up files can be restored by accessing the archive found in the "Other" category in "Computer." "Computer" can be accessed by holding down the Windows key and pressing E, or tapping the Windows key and clicking "Computer."

  1. Double click the StorageCraft File Based Backup (shows the folder for your computer name)
  2.  Double click the computer name (this opens the folders to choose from)
Inside the root of the archive, there will be a folder with the name of the archive.
  3.  Once inside the Archive folder there will be one Media folder for each volume that has files backed up. These Media folders will have the name of the volume, if available, or the unique media ID if not. Inside the Media folders will be all of the files backed up by that volume with each retaining the directory layout of that volume.
  4. Navigate to the location of the file that is to be restored. Files or folders can be restored by right‐clicking on the specific folder or file to be restored. The “Retrieve” option will restore the folder or file to the exact location that it was backed up from. The “Restore to…” option allows the file or folder to be restored to any location the user selects.
  5.  If you double‐click on a file, the archive will display all revisions of the file, so the file can be restored from a different date than the default, most recent revision. When viewing revisions, change the view type to "Details" to be able to see when each revision was  uploaded.

  6. Right click on the file you want to restore or retrieve.
     - Retrieve puts the file back where it was originally.
     - Restore allows you to save/restore to a location you select.
